Illés Mátyás launched the “In the Footsteps of Jesus” magazine in December 1969, aiming to awaken the dormant, indifferent, and lifeless Christian community. In the second issue, an article about true and false unity was published. A brief quote from the article reads: “Efforts should be made to maintain the unity of spirit in the bond of peace,” as called for in Ephesians 4:3. “When this spiritual unity ceases within a Christian community, the devil seeks to quickly compensate for it with false unity, an external, formal unity, so that people remain unaware of the true conditions and fail to repent. Through the aid of a strong church organization, individuals fallen out of mutual, genuine love are brought together on common ground, thus resulting in a large community appearing united externally, yet lacking genuine spiritual unity.”
